In 2006, Rod Bryan became the first independent candidate for Arkansas Governor on the ballot since 1940. To reach the ballot, Rod collected 10,000 registered voter signatures during March and April of 2006. During the campaign, Rod spent $11,000 and received roughly sixteen thousand votes --that's 70 cents per vote-- compared to $9.96 per vote for Republican Asa Hutchinson and $13.57 for Governor Mike Beebe.
From 2001-2006, Rod was the owner and operator of Anthro-Pop, a regionally renowned record/book shop in Little Rock. Rod is a founding member of the influential Arkansas musical group ho-hum, which originated in his hometown of Bradley in the far southwest corner of Arkansas. Ho-Hum released 10 albums of music between 1996 and 2007 while touring over forty U.S. states and three countries.
Since the 2006 campaign, Rod has immersed himself in education and e-activism concerning Arkansas environmental and social justice issues. Rod graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia with a B.A. in Mass Communications. He lives in Little Rock with his wife and two children.
