Fracking contaminates our drinking water, pollutes our air and clear cuts our forests.
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 amended the Safe Drinking Water Act and excluded the requirement of natural gas companies in revealing the chemicals they inject into the ground. Subtitle C is also known as the Halliburton Loop.
The casing, which is made of cement, sometimes breaks and cracks. When this occurrs, the fracking fluids, natural gas and petroleum pollute the aquifer and sometimes breach the ground. In Wyoming, one surface breach polluted 25,000 square feet!! During these surface breaches, fluid samples were taken and analyzed for content.* The following were found:
| Fumaric acid | Petroleum distillate hydrotreated light |
| Glutaraldehyde | Isopropanol (Propan-2-OL) |
| Xanthan gum | Barite (BaSO4) |
| Diethanolamine | Sodium acid pyrophosphate |
| Mica | Kerosene |
| Bentonite | Sodium ligninsulfonate |
| Calcium hydroxide | Anionic acrylic polymer |
| Sodium hydroxide | Fatty acid ester |
| Limestone (Calcium carbonate) | No hazardous ingredients |
| NaHCO3 | No hazardous substances |
| Crystalline silica, cristobalite | Sodium polyacrylate |
| Crystalline silica, quartz | Cellulose derivative |
| Crystalline silica, tridymite | Inert material |
| Dipropylene glycol monomethyl ether | Nut hulls |
| Coal | Walnut hulls |
| Aluminum tristearate (stearate) | Wood by-product |
In 2007, 19 oil and gas companies sponsored an analysis of the pit solids. The following were found:
| 1,2,4-Trimethylbenzene | Lead |
| 1,3,5-Trimethylbenzene | m+p-Xylene |
| 1-Methylnaphthalene | Manganese |
| 2-Butanone | Mercury |
| 2-Methylnaphthalene | Methylene chloride |
| 3+4 Methylphenol | Naphthalene |
| Acetone | n-Butylbenzene |
| Arsenic | n-Propylbenzene |
| Barium | o-Xylene |
| Benzene | Pentachlorophenol |
| Benzo(a)pyrene | Phenol |
| Cadmium | p-Isopropyltoluene |
| Carbon disulfide | Radium 226 |
| Chloride | Radium 228 |
| Chromium | Sec-butylbenzene |
| Copper | Selenium |
| Cyanide, total | Silver |
| Diesel range organics | Sodium |
| Ethylbenzene | Tert-butylbenzene |
| Fluoride | Tetrachloroethene |
| Gasoline range organics | Toluene |
| Iron | Uranium |
| Isopropylbenzene | Zinc |
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that when these chemicals contaminate the water supply, serious health effects, including death, can occur.
The Endocrine Disruption Exchange, Inc. (TEDX) is a non-profit that studies the health effects of chemicals on humans. They have found that the following effects can occur from the above chemicals.
| Respiratory | Cardiovascular and Blood |
| Skin, Eye and Sensory Organ | Endocrine Disruptors |
| Gastrointestinal and Liver | Reproductive Developmental |
| Immune | Cancer |
| Ecological | Mutagen |
| Kidney | Brain and Nervous System |
This is just water contamination!!! Not only is this contamination deadly to us and our families, but we are depleting our water supply faster than we are replenishing it. The industry uses approximately 1-8 million gallons of water PER well. One well can be fracked up to 18 times. We can not sustain if fracking continues. Water wars will increase.
Now, let's talk about air pollution.
Air samples were taken in the Four Corners region where over 35,000 natural gas wells exist. Carcinogens such as acrylonitrile, benzene, methylene chloride and ethylbenzene were found in the air samples. A total of 20 toxins were found.
The Chenango Delaware Otsego Gas Group estimated that approximatley the minimum times tanker trucks will roll to a well pad is from 320 - 1440 times. The maximum is 38,400 - 172,800. Do you still hold your breath everytime you pass a big rig on the interstate? At least it only lasts a few seconds. Imagine living near a site or a site residing near a school. Yes, the industry does that. And, sometimes with the school's permission because they receive a large sum of money for it. Our public education system does need money, but do we really want our children to acquire asthma, bloody noses and emphyzema in the process?
How much land does each site need? Anywhere from 5-15 acres depending on how many well heads will be drilled. Hunting and fishing will become extinct in these places.
So, what do you think about hydraulic fracturing? Is it worth it?

I agree with you. This type of projects should be encouraged and I think that these type of projects are the projects for the future.

Well, if crime fighters fight crime and fire fighters fight fire, what do freedom fighters fight? They never mention that part to us, do they?"

Dude, you're a knucklehead.
Go smell some glue and stick your fingers in your dupa... spare us your Phthelblah!-- couldn't find a word to describe your ridiculous comment.

Go "ENCOURAGE" your own extinction... the rest of us don't need your help.

TO ALL MEN WITH BRAINS:
IF IT POLLUTES,CONTAMINATES-MAKES PEOPLE AND ANIMAL LIFE ILL- CAUSES DEATH.
I WOULD THINK FRACKING IS NOT GOOD AND BETTER DONE WITHOUT.

No offense, but if there's a facebook like button, it'll be much easier for me to share.

Attention random retards:
Until the time we find a way to make wind/solar/whatever else work efficiently, we need natural gas. So I completely encourage fracking. I encourage all who do not want fracking to do without natural gas. If there are enough of you natural gas demand will decline. I doubt that there enough people who disagree with fracking enough to do without natural gas to make any impact on the market.

Also remember, natural gas is cleaner than coal and helps us become more energy independent therefore helping us send less money to people who hate us.

I still hope a better solution can be found. Continuing this endangers the area's quality of life.
